Miewa Kumquat

The Miewa or Large Round Kumquat (Fortunella.crassifolia) is grown extensively in China. In Japan, it is also called the ninpo or neiha kinkan.  It was introduced into the United States from Japan in 1910, but is still somewhat rare here.

Meiwa kumquats are more round in shape and are often referred to as "sweet kumquats". They have few seeds and are best eaten whole. While they are very good to eat, it is not recommended that you use them for cooking or for marmalade as they lack the tartness of the Nagami kumquats. (Right) #15 Meiwa for a home in Irvine, CA (1-24-07)
Variety Zones (Sunset) Maturity Zone 13 Remarks

Nagami 8,9,12-24 Oct-March ‘Nagami’ is more oblong than the ‘Meiwa’, more acid in taste, and a brighter orange color. The ‘Nagami’ trees are used in home and commercial landscaping and are quite cold hardy.

Our Citrus trees are ready to fruit, not little saplings. Some even come with fruit ready to eat, many come with fruit that just needs more growing time. Trees are typically sold in #5, #7, #15 and 24" box sizes. Your best value for long distance shipping are our #5 plants. But if you or your garden need a big fruit tree then try our 24" box and 36" box sizes. That also means these are big plants and require some effort to pack and ship. In California we will deliver your order. Prices and check out do not include shipping or delivery charges. Local customers may choose to pick up their order at the farm. Total shipping costs are based upon quantity of plants bought, your location and how fast you want the plants there.
