Pecual Olive
Trees
This variety is one of three olive trees that is quite popular
from Spain. It is know for it strong aromatic olive oil that is very popular in
the Middle East. Picual -- the oil know for its classic bitter-woody undertones
and crisp clean taste. It has a robust, full bodied flavor with grassy/ woody
mid-tones and a slightly peppery finish that does not linger.
Normally, Picual olive oils tend to be very pungent and a bit overwhelming.
Picual olive trees produce a lovely, full bodied flavor with a clean crisp
peppery finish.
Picual is the staple extra virgin olive oil of Andalusia, not to mention the
most widely grown olive variety in Spain. It is not hard to find a good Picual
that makes you say "wow!" It is the staple of the Andalucian kitchen and a
favorite for finishing fish and gazpacho!
Aguibal Picual is perfect on any fish, manchego cheese or simply as a dipping
oil with bread. Art Smith, Oprah's Chef, enjoys the Aguibal Picual in salads.

| We found 3 growers, but only Jeff (above) had any Picaul
olive trees with fruit on them. Jeff showing one of his many olive tree
varieties, this is Koroneiki
olive, the produce heavy loads of olives. He grew the trees that were
prepared for shipping to New York for a t.v. show on October 12
(2006)early in the morning. It is the morning show associated with a
company who uses a Peacock as its logo. |
Arbequnia olive fruit, a great plant for your container garden or
landscape. A very flexible plant. To get fruit on you container grown
olive tree, use Arbequnia for your starter plant, they are self
pollinating. The trees need to be cold for the winter, leave outside
until temperatures get into the mid 20's. |

The fruit of a Pendolino olive tree, an important
pollinator for Frantoio and Leccino olive trees. Pendolino
is a cultivar widely appreciated by growers for its high fruit
production and plays a crucial role as an excellent pollinator, both for
table and oil cultivars.

making olive oil, the oil is said to have a very strong flavor,
preferred in the Middle East. It was the tree chosen by our client Hall
Event Group and their client. The olives (drupes for
Olive people) are picked black and furnish an oil that is considered to
be of very good quality in Spain. |

| Lay trees over, hit the outside of the container to
loosen the soil inside the container. Then slide the tree out of the
container. |
Comb through the soil of the root ball with your fingers. This will
help the olive tree properly root into the ground. These Picual olive
trees were ground in redwood mulch and lava rock, so we had to take a
lot of this heavy soil mix out to make the shipping less costly. |

pruning because of its capacity to sprout new growth. Our customer
wanted 3 to 4 trees per container for their appearance on the morning
show.

Picual olive trees are vigorous plants with an
expansive crown. We used 4 trees to give a real good full appearance. This variety has an open shape and branches in a square
rectangular pattern. The small branches have leaves at close spacing
that are elliptical-lanceolate in shape and of a brilliant green color. |
