Rose Pest Problem Solver

I love Roses and I have been spoiled by the Southern and Central California Rose gardening schedule. We are able to enjoy Roses 10 to 12 months out of the year. That's good because it seems that for many months out of the year So Cal roses are afflicted by just about every pest know to a gardener. Many, if not most of these pests occur in other parts of the Country for at least a short while during the growing year.

You name it, I have probably had to deal with it. I grew up the way most gardeners do, spraying everything in sight. A few years back I learned how to use natural crop oils and beneficial insects to treat almost all of my rose and flower garden pest problems. The first step in great rose garden is to plant something other than roses in it. A good bug habitat ground cover or nearby beneficial insect garden is a great way to encourage natural predators to live and work for you in your rose garden.

The next is to learn what your pest problem is. Choose from the pest index and look at the photos of Rose pest problems. Each is linked are to a page of natural and close to natural products (when possible) to get ride of them.

Aphids come in many sizes and colors

Many gardeners confuse the white remains of the aphids for "whiteflies." These dead aphids are actually an indication that ladybugs and lacewing are working in your garden. Heavy populations of Aphids may require some extra help to get get total control.
